Nicole Makkes is a lawyer who specialises in privacy (CIPP / E and CDPO) and commercial contracts.
Nicole focuses on privacy issues in the broadest sense of the word. She enjoys working with privacy officers and DPOs as much as working for organizations without privacy professionals. Nicole also drafts, advises and litigates in the field of commercial contracts.
Nicole began her career in 2004 as a lawyer at De Gier | Stam & Lawyers in Utrecht. In 2008, Nicole joined the Royal Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants (NBA) as (successively) an in-house lawyer, legal counsel and Privacy Officer. In 2018, Nicole was responsible for implementing the GDPR at the NBA.
Nicole studied law at the University of Amsterdam, the Freie Universität Berlin and Tulane University (New Orleans). She also completed two Grotius specialist courses (National and International Contracting and IT Law) and in 2017 trained as a CDPO / Certified Data Protection Officer (graduating cum laude). In 2022 Nicole completed a LL.M. at the Goethe Universität in Frankfurt am Main (magna cum laude).
Nicole lives in both Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and Frankfurt am Main (Germany) where she continues to make efforts to master German grammar.
