Maurice Essers is of counsel who specialises in Procurement & Competition law.

Maurice Essers is a specialist in competition, regulatory and procurement law. He advices businesses in relation to cartel investigations conducted by the ACM [Dutch competition authority] and the European Commission. He is also active in merger review with the ACM and the European Commission. In addition, Maurice regularly litigates before Dutch courts of law and the European Court of Justice.

In procurement law Maurice assists tenderers in tendering procedures. He provides advice on the Procurement Act [Aanbestedingswet], procurement policy, concessions, exclusive and special rights, and he performs procurement audits.

Maurice is the author of the handbook Aanbestedingsrecht voor overheden [Procurement Law for Public Authorities]. He is also an a contributor or editor-in-chief of various magazines and journals, such as Tijdschrift voor Staatssteun, Nederlands tijdschrift voor Europees recht, Mededinging in de praktijk, Tekst & Commentaar Aanbestedingswet (Kluwer) and SDU Commentaar Aanbestedingswet.

Before he joined Clairfort Advocaten in July 2018, Maurice was a partner with the Competition and Government legal team of Loyens & Loeff in Amsterdam and operated with his team under the name Essers Advocaten for one and a half years.

Maurice serves as a speaker at conferences, as a lecturer (Grotius, AvdR and the University of Utrecht) and as a member of specialist associations. For instance, he is a member of the Vereniging voor Mededingingsrecht [Competition Law Association], the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Aanbestedingsrecht [Procurement Law Association] and the Landelijk Netwerk Staatssteun [National State Aid Network]. He is founder and honorary member of the Vereniging Compliance [Compliance Association] in the health care sector.
