Johannes Buntjer is an attorney-at-law and M&A specialist within the corporate law and M&A department
For almost 30 years, Johannes has been active as a lawyer and consultant in the corporate transactions practice, both in national and cross border transactions involving parties from one or more jurisdictions outside the Netherlands. He assists companies from a wide range of industries as well as private equity and venture capital investors. In addition to his transactional activities, Johannes has vast experience with drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, including for example outsourcing agreements.
Johannes is good at converting and translating specialist legal issues (such as regulatory aspects) into relevant elements of the transactions at hand. In advising on matters, Johannes builds on his broad and deep experience, which enables him to keep the interest of the transaction as a whole in mind without losing sight of the relevant details.
Johannes has a no-nonsense practical approach and is recognised by his clients as a straightforward, experienced and transparent lawyer. He is praised for his pro-activity and his ability to organise and manage transactions. Among other things, clients praise him for putting their interests first without losing sight of the goal of the transaction, adding that “he is a strong advocate with a balanced approach”.
Johannes grew up in Africa and studied law at Leiden University and spent several months in France at the University of Poitiers as part of an Erasmus exchange.
Before joining Clairfort until September 2019 Johannes was a lawyer in Amsterdam and spent time professionally in New York and London. Thereafter, he has been active as an independent legal advisor and as in-house legal counsel on an interim basis. Johannes will be sworn in as an attorney-at-law again in early 2022.
